'Helmond Pillar' Berberis fits the name: It is columnar in habit with really dark purple foliage. Looks excellent in areas where a plant with some structure is needed. Berberis thunbergii f. atropurpurea 'Hellmond Pillar' has excellent red fall color. Plant has excellent architectual attributes, narrower at the base than the top.
