Gold Rush Dawn Redwood is a phenomenal plant and everyone should have one, providing they have room, however, it grow slower than the species. Foliage is chartreuse yellow to glowing yellow depending on the sun's angle. If its 90 degrees out and its noon and the sun is straight over head the plant glows to the point it looks holy! Species was thought to be extinct for millions of years. Found in rural China in the 1940s. Often referred to as the living fossil. Now we have this divine selection. Fall color is outrageous copper overlay on yellow. Unique! American Conifer Society plant in 2007 for good reason! I love this plant!

Care When watering plant water thoroughly. Example for 7 gal plant 5-10 min per watering. 15 gal 10-15 min per watering. 20 gal 15-20 min per watering. When you first plant tree water every day for 2 weeks or so. Then go to every other day for 2 weeks, then go to every third or fourth day. You progressively work your way to every 5-7 days while always keeping plant evenly moist. Do not drown plant. The secret to this plant is plant it in a moist yet well drained area. In spring before plant leafs out watering once every 5-7 days is fine. Once plant leafs out kick it up to once every 5 days. When it starts getting hot in late may and during summer water twice a week until leaf drop in the Fall. Once leaves drop, watering once every 5-7 days is acceptable until freeze. Plant is susceptible to drought, thrives with moisture and love. Well worth the effort to grow. These are the master plans for first 2-3 years for establishment. Do your yourself a favor and commit some turf space to this tree! It will make your grass look better!
