Chief Joseph Shore Pine has color like no other. There is no yellow evergreen that can match this plants color during winter, none!!! ‘Chief Joseph’ is easy to grow. Plant is striking golden yellow from Halloween through the following May. The tree then turns to a chartreuse green color for the growing season until late October when it goes through the big change again. ‘Chief Joseph’ only grows 4” per year making it suitable for the small garden. Looks outstanding with Silver Mist Juniper on a standard. Use as a key piece where there is a lot of blue and dark green winter color and the plant will really pop when it gets cold.
Very rare in the nursery business and seldom seen in Arboretums or botanical gardens. Discovered in Oregon in the early 90s by Doug Mills. Good job Doug!!!
