About Blue River Nursery

Situated in a beautiful country setting in north-eastern Indiana, Blue River Nursery is a grower of rare and unusual plants.

Often our plants are difficult to find for the typical hobby gardener, or even the serious plant collector. We have a retail nursery open to the public, as well as a mail order division that can ship plants to folks too far away to visit personally.

Family Owned & Operated

Blue River Nursery is a family-owned business with three generations of nursery men on staff. The nursery was started by Steve Locker in December of 1987 with his son Shawn. Shawn's son Georg came on board in June of 2008 and hopefully he can continue to carry the torch for many years to come.

Landscape Design and Installation

Our company also does custom landscape design and installation. We have three different options available to help you easily create your dream garden(s) .

A "Green" Nursery

We not only have green thumbs, but we also try to run a "green" nursery. We recycle everything we can and encourage you to do so as well. About 10 acres of our nursery property has been dedicated to wildlife preservation. Part of it is reclaimed wetlands with the rest being reclaimed prairie. We believe if we take care of the land the land will take care of us.
